Governing Vessel 16 as Source Point
In Dr. Sutherland's Cranial Concept, he expressed that he felt that the (energetic) "Breath of Life" animated the Cranial System, and subsequently the body, via the CerebroSpinal Fluid. He stated that he felt the the CerebroSpinal Fluid was the first receptor of the "fluid within a fluid" (i.e., the "Breath of Life"). In Traditional Chinese Medicine a "Source Point" is said to be an area where Qi/Chi gathers before being distributed throughout the body (via the corresponding acupuncture meridian).
Governing Vessel 16 (Du-16) is known as "Wind Palace" or "Wind Mansion". This point is located on the midline of the occipital bone just below the external occipital protuberance, the small bump on the lower portion of the back of the head. In his writings, Mikio Sankey, Ph. D., L.A.C., states:"The esoteric meaning and use of 'wind' refers to the energies of prana, or Qi, with the higher meaning of 'wind' referring to the energies of 'Spirit'. Du-16 used in the New Encoding Patterns will open a gateway to be able to draw inward the highest prana, or Qi, from the celestial realms". (Esoteric Acupuncture - Gateway to Expanded Healing, Vol. 1, p. 321)
For over a decade I have been studying and practicing what I call Cranial-Occipital Therapy (COT) techniques that focus on using the lower portion of the occipital squama as an entry point to treating the cranial system. One of these COT techniques focuses directly on the lower portion of the external occipital protuberance where Du-16 is located. Time and again, facilitating treatments via this point has shown me that it has a profound effect on influencing the functioning and rebalancing of the Cranial System. And, it is my belief that this point, Du-16, is quite possibly a, if not the, "Source Point" of the Cranial System where Qi/Chi can be accessed to facilitate treatments via the energetic breath of life, or celestial Qi.
